NINA JOHANSSON STUDIO
Necklace made of recycled silver representing part of a rat skull. The charm is about 3 cm and comes with a 60 cm long ball chain in 925 sterling silver.
The process of producing a finished piece of jewelry is called "lost form" and means that Nina creates an original that is made in wax. It is then embedded in a plaster-like casting compound which is allowed to harden. After that, the wax melts out, leaving a cavity in the plaster. It is in this cavity that Nina then pours molten silver and thus obtains a copy of the wax model. Working with lost form is time-consuming and means that a new wax model is made and the whole process is repeated every time a new piece of jewelry is made.
